Children’s Day Celebration 2013.-The History
This
is a special event meant to both protect and honor children around the
world. It was first started in 1954 as a way of protecting children from
working long hours in dangerous situations; it was also meant to give
children a chance to receive a good education. The United Nations
General Assembly recommends that all countries celebrate Children’s Day
on any day that is appropriate for their country. Because of this,
different countries celebrate Children’s day on different days of the
year but there is a Universal Children’s Day that is celebrated every
year on November 20th.
History of Children’s Day began in
October of 1953 and was celebrated in Geneva for the first time with the
International Union for Child Welfare being the sponsor. It was this
celebration that inspired the United Nations to observe a Universal
Children’s day in 1954. To go along with this, the anniversary of the
adoptions of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, November 20th
was chosen as the day of observance every year for Children’s Day.
Today, it is celebrated in over 100 countries, although the day varies
with each country.
