Tambuwal, Atiku, Tinubu, Akande in Osun for Opon Imo launch
PROMINENT Nigerians including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and National Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Chief Adebisi Akande, on Monday, stormed Ilesa, in Osun State for the official launch of “Opon Imo” learning tablets by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
They lauded the state governor for setting the pace in Nigeria, with the launch of the learning device for secondary school pupils in Osun, observing that impacts of the implementation of programmes and policies of the government have rubbed off positively on the citizenry in the state.
Describing the learning device as new initiative, capable of making the imparting of knowledge on the students more easier and stress free, they submitted that distributing computer tablets containing 17 subjects to all senior secondary school students in the state was a tremendous achievement in revolutionising education in the state.
In their separate remarks, the Oyo state Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi and his Ekiti state counterpart, Dr Kayode Fayemi commended Governor Aregbesola for setting a pace for other states in the country.
Senator Tinubu expressed delight at the performances of Governor Aregbesola in his two and a half years administration, stressing that he was not disappointed with his commendable achievements and that of other governors of the ACN in the country.
“The governor has through the launch of “Opon Imon” given real dividends of democracy to every home in the state”, saying that every single home in the state would directly benefit from the government’s gesture.
While addressing the gathering, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal said the National Assembly would always identify with good governance anywhere in the country, pointing out that “Aregbesola has demonstrated without ambiguity the commitment of his administration to good governance through programmes which have direct, visible and positive impact on the people”.
In his remark, Aregbesola, who appreciated God and the people of the state for the opportunity to serve said his government believes in education as the solution to mirage of problems in the country, hence its interest in the education sector.
He observed that the computer tablets would go a long way at ameliorating the sufferings of students who have no text books and do not have access to functional library, just as he enjoined other states of the federation to borrow a leaf from his government in the area of education, describing the children as tomorrow leaders of the country.
Other dignitaries present at the occasion were representatives of Niger and Kano state Governors, Chief Ayo Opadokun, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Senator Olusola Adeyeye, Senator Jide Omoworare and Mrs Orelope Adefulure among others.
